Overly difficult tests or assignments
Lacks enthusiasm in the classroom
Poor sense of humor
Worst professors I've ever had!
If you are taking organic chemistry, PLEASE do not enroll if he is going to be the teacher. The first day he tells you flat out that you better plan on memorizing EVERYTHING in the book, because he could test you on any of it. His lectures were always unclear and he often singles students out and asks them difficult questions, then belittles them if they don't know the answer. His tests and peer led assignments were always extremely difficult. I had to drop the course and now I am retaking again in the fall. Please do not waste your time with him!
Positive:
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter

Professor does not relate to students
I had Ronald the first semester in organic chemistry. I had to drop. I retook it with another professor and got an A. Ronald is unable to relate to students because he has not changed his teaching methods to suit modern day learning methods. For example, in chemistry they used to tell you to memorize this book and you’ll be tested on it. Now days, professors have realized that it works better if you explain why it is the way it is instead of memorizing facts and tables from a book. It turns out that organic chemistry actually has some logical construction. But Ronald made us learn pKa values that were not brought out during lecture and not in the book and several times belittled students and their efforts. Upon asking him for help, he talked for fifteen minutes about an unrelated topic when a simple “yes†or “no†would have sufficed. In addition, Ronald also told me that my previous chemistry classes were not sufficient in preparing me for his class, though I had taken all the prerequisites and gotten A’s in all of them. Ronald also has old fashioned ideas about the place of a woman in the science world, which I found particularly annoying. Please do not take this class from this man. Chemistry is hard enough; Don’t waste your time or money.
