I had him for the Fall 2002 semester. He displays an uncanny knowledge of the material, as though he had written it but when lecturing he occasionally confuses the students with complex terms for simple events. However, it is possible to get a good grade but if you didn't have high school chemistry, the pace he moves at could be difficult, he covers the first year of high school chemistry in one semester. And the curve last semester was approximately 7%, thus an 88% (880 pts out of 1000) could have earned an A, in my opinion this is a large curve, as compared to other classes.
wherland is not horrible, but he is by no means a good professor. his lectures are incredibly dry, poorly organized and thoroughly unhelpful when looking back on your notes. the class is passable, however, thanks to labs, homework, and quizzes, which help boost scores from his ridiculous tests. i would not reccomend him, but there is little to no choice if you need to take chem 105.

He seems to know what he's talking about but he really speeds through the material some times. and there were occasions on which I questioned his sanity.
