I took Chemical Engineering 201 from Bill. First of all, forget your social life for a semester. Class was Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Assignments were assigned each lecture due at the following lecture. The assignments took at least four hours each (often times more) and you really didn’t know what you did anyway. He also had a nasty habit of disappearing before tests so you couldn’t ask questions (even a couple of days before the test). And after you turned in your assignment, he would work the problems on the board but you couldn’t compare because you’d already turned them in. If you want to pass this class with a good grade, you’ll need to work really hard and leave your schedule open for office hours.
OK, so Thomson is one of those older guys that has a helluva complex. He's convinced that the problem is in the student, not in his teaching methods. Even if you're a hardworking "A" student, don't be surprised if you find yourself barely able to pull a "C" in the class. The subject material is incredibly tough in and of itself. Test score averages? Sometimes in the 30's. And the standard deviation is a mutha. He says he grades based on "relative experience", but that's a load of crock. Avoid him if you can, but if you're in Chemical engineering or Bioengineering, you really can't :( Maker sure to form a dependable study group or you'll find yourself in a downward spiral. If you enjoy alcohol, he'd probably make a great drinking buddy, but that's about it.
Positive:
Is interesting/entertaining/funny

Negative:
Is a bad professor
Would not recommend this professor
Confusing or hard to understand
Expectations are unclear or lofty
Overly difficult tests or assignments
Notes/lecture is confusing
Makes class too challenging
Professor does not relate to students
Worst professors I've ever had!
