This guy is a jerk, especially if you are not a Geology or Geography major. Sorry some of us are just not that into rocks! We would spend hours working on these papers due every week, and then he would tear them apart. Don't take him if you need to finish up your 2 labs, business majors! Disrespectful of students in College of Business.

out of class hard to come by unless you are a girl or a brownnoser. also he is a prick. swears at his students making them feel entirly worthless at moments. doesn't know how to seperate personal problems with school life

For as brilliant a geologist as he is, his style of teaching for any aspiring earth science student is completely demoralizing. An impossibly difficult grading scheme lends no motivation to perform to his high expectations if, regardless of the quality of student work, those expectations can not be met. His imposing nature makes it difficult to convey any personal emotions about his courses to him. Students once eager to learn about the earth sciences become distraught and lose confidence in their own abilities, making any brilliance he may have in his field become a shameful waste of his potential. However, if you can make it through his classes, as a testament to your chararacter, I am convinced you can do anything you may choose with your life and achieve great success.

Mahoney is the biggest asshole, yet the coolest prof I've had here...you'll either love him or hate him...either way you'll work your ass off for his class, and learn the most you have ever learned at this school...i'd take him for any class!
