David Lewis

I'd like to preface this post with the fact that Dr. Lewis is teaching a VERY difficult subject, and as such is putting himself in the line of fire from frustrated students. (Personally, I think that this should be one of the later courses for chem and biochem students simply because of the level of difficulty of the subject.) When I took his course the material seemed impossible, however Dr. Lewis helped me with the information a number of times, which ultimately saved my grade. The man is incredibly brilliant and is unapologetic about it. Some students have taken this as his flaunting his knowledge, however I don’t think he is trying to make students feel dumb, but rather trying to instigate an intelligent conversation. Having said this, I believe that he does understand that the material is difficult which is why he curves the grades at the end of the semester. In general, I found Dr. Lewis to be an enthusiastic professor with a wonderful sense of humor.

This man is absolutely horrible. The one and only time I went to his office for help he made me cry. He is super mean and has a large ego issue. He makes you feel dumb because you are not as smart as he is. This semester he gave all take home quizes which are pretty much impossible. I would spend many many hours working on them and still get zeros. The average on each exam was around 40 and he had to adjust his grading scale so that 260 points our of 600 is an A and he still has many students struggling to get a C. Do not take this man. I feel that I should be retaking it because I did not learn a thing.
