He does give very helpful comments on papers and is more than willing to help students. That's great and more professor should do that. However, his daily assignments are absurdly difficult. The readings he assigns are much too hard for a 200-level class and he knows it. He laughs about how graduate students have a hard time with a certain essay and then expects stimulating discussion from a handful of undergrads. His expectations are far too high and it creates an environment that is frustrating and not conducive to learning.

He's a tough prof, definitely not one for easy A's (or even easy B's), but the class was interesting and I learned a lot! His class was worth the work.

Joel is the most awesome professors I've ever had! He makes his class so fun and interesting, I actually wanted to go to class every day. He is very acessible and friendly. The only thing is he won't go easy on you when grading papers.

Nothing bad about him! Great guy. Hes young so he relates to us. Strives to learn your name, and he wants to be called Joel. Amazing guy.
