Dr. Scales was THE worst professor I have ever had. It was quite clear that he had no interest in teaching, and was only at UWEC to do research. He flat out lied to our class when he said that a particular subject would not be on the exam when in fact it was the only example of that subject on the exam. When challenged on it he acted sheepish and mumbled that it's a tough world and did NOTHING about it. All but 2 of his students failed every exam, and so in the end his solution was just to give everyone in the class a "C" (with 2 exceptions). I am very happy he is no longer at UWEC - it is for everyone's benefit that he is no longer teaching there.

I had Dr. Scales for two classes and was one of the worst classes I took. I have had many other classes while earning my Bachelor of Science and his teaching style was one sided, he lectured and you had to listen. If you disagreed or didn't understand, you had to go talk to a TA. He is very intelligent and an asset to the department, but has too big of a head.

lectures had no worth. You could be smarter by reading the book instead of going to classes.
