Smiar can be difficult at times. He has high expectations of his students and you have to work hard to do well. If you are willing to put in the effort you will learn a lot. overall class was an extremely positive experience. One of the best profs at the university

Negative:
If you want have your self esteem lowered by several notches everytime you have class, take a class with Dr. Smiar. Prepare to be put down and told you are "wrong." Even if your idea may be valid, if it's not word for word what he wants to hear, it's wrong. Have a problem with responding too much in class? He will cure you of that.

Professor Smiar is very knowledgeable and nice. His lectures are terribly boring, however.
