Paul Wagner
University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire
Department:
Computer Science
Professors: Respond to evaluations by creating an account
Wagner is very well organized in class. People complain of his teaching styles only using power points. But if you ask me, that is better than having him stand up front writing code for 45 minutes and at the end having it error out and not compile much like some other CS professors. As far as people saying his projects are too challenging, well that is the way that it is with every professor. Wagner is no worse than the others.
Positive:
Good professor.
I would recommend this professor
Is challenging
Comes to class organized
Negative:
Lacks enthusiasm in the classroom
Dr. Wagner is not the most interesting lecturer in history, but he knows his stuff, and is willing to help you learn when things aren't clear. The only really bad thing about him, which may be due to the acoustics more than to any other factor, is that it's really hard to hear him sometimes, even sitting in the 2nd row in class, just because he's so soft-spoken. If you pay attention and keep up with the course work though, you'll end up taking a lot of valuable knowledge away from this class.
Positive:
Good professor.
Great teaching methods/approach
I would recommend this professor
Is willing to help students anytime
Shows a love of teaching
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Negative:
Professor is boring or bland
Paul Wagner is a good professor and one of my favorites. His classes may be bland but hey, it's programming. He is always willing to help students, and it is clear that he actually wants you to succeed. I would recommend taking a class with Wagner if you like programming but still might need a little help with it; he will make it available to you.
Positive:

I would recommend this professor
Is interesting/entertaining/funny

Is creative

Motivates students to do well
Is willing to help students anytime

Negative:
Confusing or hard to understand
Sometimes the expectations seem too high for the class level we are at. He will sometimes assign a program to be due, when there might be very little time for it to be done. However, he is always willing to help, including email, phone, as well as in his office. He is also understanding with the labs, and sees if people are having trouble, that he should redefine the deadline.
