I can't say Dr. Lazda has excellent methods, because he obviously failed to reach a lot of people here. But this is a man who has lived more history than I'll ever know. He is the quintessential European intellectual. I took Russian Cultural & Intellectual (as well as History of the Balkans) from him. He made Russian music, art, and literature come alive for me. As we were listening to a piece, I said I was "waiting for the video," which earned me an icy stare. But the next day, he had prepared a slide show that illustrated the 1812 Overture!! THAT is dedication. Oh, and I once missed class due to a snowstorm. I called to meet with him to see what I missed. He gave the entire lecture all over again, complete with slides. Is he challenging? Yes. Are his expectations higher than those of your run-of-the-mill UWEC professor? Without a doubt. But stop thinking about your GPA and think about what you can learn from this generous and brilliant intellectual.

The people who gave him A's are probably his TA's who are just like him. He has no idea how to teach and is incredibly boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Lazda was one of my professors quite a while ago for study abroad to Latvia. To this day he is the best professor I've ever had. He was inspiring, enthusiastic, caring, and made learning interesting. I would highly recommend Dr. Lazda and if you have the opportunity to study abroad with him---do it! It was one of the best experiences of my life!

I think the class is great. It's hard if you dont ever come, but if you pay attention and act like you care about what he says it makes him happy and that = good grade.
