Economics
Professors: Respond to evaluations by creating an account
Jackie is the most unprofessional professor ive ever had. One day in class we were discussing "fair trade" when one student gave his opion she criticized him in front of class saying that he was "too capatalist minded" She is the ONLY professor i have had that handed out a brochure from a political organization to students in class. She is the only professor i have ever had say that we needed to call our legislators to change some policy. She is the only professor i have ever had that does not accept students' opinions. She is horrible, she has a PHD but talk to her for 5 minutes and you'll be surprised that she has an associates degree. Yes she does have interesting stories for class which she always turns into class discussion but if you do not agree 100% with her view point then you're just wrong and a horrible person in her book. The most unorganized prof i have ever had, forgets notes in her office, writes on the board in the most hard to follow way i have ever seen a prof do. Worthless in EVERY sense of the word. I took the class hoping to learn something, not with her

Negative:

Overly difficult tests or assignments
Jackie is probably one the nicest professors you'll ever have at UW-RF. She's very kind and is always willing to help. The tests are easy IF YOU READ THE BOOK. She wrote her own book for the class; so, that's either a positive or a negative depending on the type of student you are. If you're planning on not cracking a book open all semester, you will not do well in the course. However, even if you read the chapters at least once and understand them, you should do very well on her tests. Also, I would buy the Study Guide she recommends on the first day of class (which costs about $18 at the Book Store) because about 1/3 of the questions on her tests are almost identical to the questions she has in the Study Guide. The only thing that I found as a negative was that the notes get to be somewhat disorganized. It's hard to keep your notebook in good, organized shape because she writes everything on a chalkboard. She uses a lot of statistics and graphs. So, that makes studying a little hard. However, her final is not cumulative. So, that's definitely a plus. I definitely recommend taking her for Modern Economics.
Positive:
I would recommend this professor
Is interesting/entertaining/funny
Is creative
Brings discussion into the classroom
Is willing to help students anytime
Shows a love of teaching
Negative:
Notes/lecture is confusing
After confusing herself, again, while going through her lecture, she told the class, "You'll have to excuse me, I do a lot of drugs." She's an old hippy that's, well, a hippy. She's unorganized and easily confused as is, but apparently her migraine meds make it worse. She brings nothing of value to class. The only plus is that her classes are very easy. Her 100 class requires attendance (she asked me who I was every day for over week after I added the second class day), otherwise you can just read the book and skip. Or you can do like I did: sit in the back, stay for attendance, then leave.
