Kris is a pretty good professor. However, for 401, be prepared to work your butt off! Each day we had at least 3 grammer exercises due, which she doesn't discuss until after you have toiled away on them. Other assingments, such as watching French movies and listening to french news reports, are often pointless and difficult. She does, however, support students and let me schedule another time for my final when I missed the first due to obligations for another class. She doesn't correct pronounciation hardly ever; so many people in 401 couldn't actually speak French (and most of them were majors, too). Overall, she's pretty good, but expect a lot of work for 401. If only she'd revamp her style so that you reviewed the grammer, then did the homework, then reviewed it again. Find a study/movie buddy.

Professor Butler-Karlson is one of the best french teachers I have ever had. She makes sure you understand things before moving on to something else. She really cares about her students and is willing to help. She teaches you things you want to know, and is cool about modern vocabulary. I would reccomend her to anyone taking french!!

IT'S ALL TRUE. KRIS BUTLER IS FANTASTIC. SHE IS TRULY MORE THAN A PROFESSOR, SHE IS A CONFIDANT AND CARES MORE ABOUT HER STUDENTS THAN ANY TEACHER I'VE EVER MET. NOW LISTEN TO THIS: I TOOK KRIS FOR 4 FRENCH CLASSES, TESTING INTO 3RD LEVEL FRENCH MY JUNIOR YEAR. I KNOW MY FRENCH. YET THE LAST CLASS I TOOK WITH HER I FAILED. I NEVER WENT TO CLASS. I DIDN'T PARTICIPATE. AND I NEVER ONCE HEARD A LECTURE, ONLY WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT. KRIS IS A PROFESSOR WHO CAN LOOK BEYOND TEXTBOOKS AND GRADES AND INTO STUDENTS' REAL LIVES OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. SHE GENUINELY CARES WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR FAMILY, YOUR FRIENDSHIPS, YOUR WORK. TAKE HER. RESPECT HER.
