Durst is a tough teacher. True, she knows what she's talking about. She's also very enthusiastic about her lessons. However, she is a pretty bland teacher at times. She tries to get everyone involved during class, but I don't think the class cares half of the time. Her tests are amazingly hard and her grading on papers can be out-of-whack. I worked my butt off on all of her papers and I got C's on almost all of them. You gotta love her passion for teaching, but it wasn't enough to keep my interested.
I had Durst for intro to ed and ed in a pluralistic society. Class wasn't hard, just boring. I agree with the other poster who said that there is no real subject matter. Basically, you write alot of papers about articles she's collected. Also, be prepared to do small group discussions almost everyday about these articles as well. The tests are not hard if you go to class and take notes on what she says, she won't write it on the board, but the questions will come directly from what she says outloud. She takes attendence every morning as you walk in and you get graded on it. Also, you do about 2-3 group presentation projects. Overall, its not a bad class and you can tell she knows alot about what she's talking about.
Positive:

Is willing to help students anytime
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Involves students in every lecture
Comes to class organized
Negative:
Professor is boring or bland
Well organized and gave clear directions. Kept class interesting by varying the types of activities and methods of presentation. Allowed for various viewpoints in terms of educational philosophy, even encouraged them, which made for good classroom discussion.
Positive:
Good professor.
Involves students in every lecture
Has enthusiasm in the classroom
Comes to class organized
Negative:
Durst is an alright professor. Her downfall is that she has no real subject matter to her lectures. They consist of articles she has collected over the years and that is all she talks about. Although her class wasn't hard, it was very boaring and I feel as if I learned nothing. She also does not explain what she wants on papers, even after asked several different times, so it is almost impossible to get an A on them.
Positive:
Is willing to help students anytime
Shows a love of teaching
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Involves students in every lecture
Negative:
Professor is boring or bland
Expectations are unclear or lofty
Notes/lecture is confusing
Sometimes class could seem boring or bland, and sometimes I was unsure about stuff. But she's really cool and will help out anytime, she's very understanding that way. She's always encouraging class discussion and for you to do your best. Taking notes in her class is a breeze, assignments aren't too challenging. So long as you show up, listen, do assignments the tests will be easy too. Also, the topics are all interesting. I highly recomend this professor.
