This is the hardest class I have had in WW so far....but she is willing to work with you. Don't not study for exams...they are SSSSOOOO HARD that even musically gifted ppl had problems. Learning the piano wasn't bad, if I can do it, so can you b/c I never had a music class in my life. GOOD LUCK :)
She's an okay professor. She tries really hard to do a good job teaching us. As beginning piano students, though, most of the people in the class had little or no musical background at all. I've had over eight years of playing music and have been working on learning piano since I was five. The performance exams were easy. We had a lot of options so that everyone would have the chance to get all the points regardless of their ability level. The written exams were extremely difficult. She asked about things we never even discussed in class. Most people failed all the exams. My previous music ability did help me to get a descent grade in the class. I know she meant well in her ways of teaching, but the review was always way easier than the exam questions so you went into the exam with a false sense of security. As to the treating us like kindergarteners comments, that's just what has to be done to teach this class. We are learning to teach young children musical concepts so we need to learn how to teach music so they will understand. Professor Johansen did an excellent job modeling for us appropriate activities and teaching methods.
