I took Historic Perspectives over Global Perspectives because I love history. I really like Professor Miller and thought he was a good teacher overall. I did think that the readings were very long and boring. I didn't mind that we had to write papers because I think I am a good paper writer. Although some of the subjects he covers or the subjects of the papers, are confusing. The first paper we did was on how to teach a global history and I thought I knew what I was doing then he tried to explain and then I ended up being confused and doing it wrong. I did doze off a couple times because he lectures a lot. Overall I liked the class and he is a really nice guy.
I am a History and English major, so his teaching methods were perfect for me lol. I thought even though he lectured most of the time, he was very engaging and enthusiastic about it. He is a really nice guy, and I hope I can continue to have him for history.

Negative:
Professor Miller is a good guy, but I didn't like his teaching style. The history class was structured similarly to an English class. There were no tests, just papers and the occasionally short answer quiz. All he does most days is lecture. He also assigns readings, which are long and usually hard to understand. If you can't learn well with this type of teaching style, then you probably shouldn't take this class.
Positive:

Negative:
Professor is boring or bland
Overly difficult tests or assignments
Professor Miller taught my Historical Perspectives class and I was bored to death! I am generally a history buff and love anything to do with the subject, but he made the class just down-right dull! He has a quirky sense of humor and is a pretty nice guy if you get to know him but definitely could improve on motivating the class. There was never any homework just extremely long and boring readings along with an occasional quiz. Never any tests or exams just papers. They usually ranged from 3-6 pages and the instructions were never very clear and extremely challenging once you caught the drift of the topic. His criteria for the papers was even more strict than my english class. If you like not having homework and dont mind being bored in class then definitely take Miller. Otherwise probably not the best choice. He did crack a couple of corny jokes once in a while otherwise, not a bad guy. Just not my style of learning.
