Dale Ritterbusch

He is very unclear about what he expects... everything is due in a portfolio at the end of the year and you don't go through every assignment in class. He is probably one of THE MOST BORING professors I've ever taken; it's IMPOSSIBLE to concentrate!!!! On the plus side, he cancelled class on several occasions and is a nice older man. I unfortunatly was hoping to take creative writing as a fun way to learn how to write but we never really learned anything!!! If you are interested in taking a FUN creative writing class... DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! SOOO BORING!!!!

He is the best professor I have ever had. I took creative writing with him last year and purposely took him again for World of Ideas. He is clever, sarcastic, very intelligent, worldly, and is a walking criticism of the bullshit we call society. You will not like him if you are stupid, ignorant, naive, or a radical nationalist. He is the best professor to take World of Ideas with because he actually focuses on current issues within the US and the world and how they effect us...instead of reading a million chapters of the Bible and talking about religious ideas, like most of the other professors do for this course. If you participate in class discussion and do the papers you will be just fine. He will insult everyone in the classroom at least twice a class, but if you actually listen to what he says, you cannot help but agree. He is also very helpful during office hours and willing to meet with people to discuss opinions. He really likes people who have travelled outside the US. Take Professor Ritterbusch. I respect him more than any other professor I've had.

If you are a person of structure, don't take this class. Deadlines to not exist. His lectures are very monotone and boring - I have yet NOT to fall asleep in class. He takes attendance so you have to go... He's a little narrow minded when it comes to writing styles. If yours doesnt match his, he gets critical and tries to change your originality.

If you are a fan of dry humor, take this guy. I enjoyed every one of his lectures. Sure his due dates are basically nonexistent, but if you read half of the readings and contribute even a little it's a fun/easy/entertaining class especially if you get dumb people in there. Awesome/intellectual guy that is one of the few professors I actually respect.

He is a really good guy but is pretty monotone in his discussions. If you read and contribute at least a little, he will like you and the class will go easier. He doesn't give due dates for the papers either so just don't get behind in those. He's a really good professor if you like to think and actually want to learn.
