David Porter

He's a cool guy but his exams and group projects are redic. I have had hard assignment before but dang. He's assignments are in my top 3 hardest ever.

DO NOT BE TERRIFIED OF PORTER... Dr. Porter = Boss... Easy "A" if you apply yourself and follow his directions. If you want As on the test...know the material and put all the little details on the flash card(ex.names of ETFs or random facts). If you go into his test thinking you can bull shit it with a flash card your mistaken. Oh, and for the first test don't forget YTM..half the class missed that question even though he told us 100 times it would be on there

Porter is a pretty good professor. He definitely knows what he's talking about. I felt that his lectures were boring, and moved too fast. He always wrote stuff on the board that was hard to follow. The exams are extremely hard. I would recommend studying for them weeks in advance if you want to do well. The assignments are pointless and require way too much work based on what they're worth in the class. He's the only Investments professor so you're stuck with him anyway. Don't underestimate this class, it is very tough!

I did not learn anything from my previous finance class except how to mimic a calculator by plugging numbers into a formula on my notecard. Porter is able to actually teach the concepts involved and make the math mean something. He takes note of where his students struggle and reminds future students of it so that you don't make the same mistakes. So his lectures can actually be very beneficial. However, he has a very condescending attitude and sometimes makes students feel stupid and acts like you are a child asking him to hold your hand when all you want is a simple answer.

Like somebody said, it is clear that this has never had a real job. He does not what the real world looks like
