David Welsch
University of Wisconsin - Whitewater
Department:
Economics
Professors: Respond to evaluations by creating an account
I struggled a lot in this course, for the same reasons as stated below: Welsch has terrible hand writing and to make it worse, writes his notes out on a "smart board" that reduces his notes to scribbles. He's very smart but I feel like he teaches a little too fast because he already knows it so well. He hardly EVER follows along with the text book so good luck catching up on the notes on your own if you miss one day. I also rated him low on his humor because it was sooo dry all the time, i couldn't stand it. I don't mean to paint a picture that scares you off from Welsch forever, but be forewarned, expect some BIG tests worth 150 points that are always short answer. Oh yeah, he marked a kid down on his test because he answered a question in more than the (3-5 words)requested by him.
I am a finance major and not econ so this could be one reason i dislike the class. If you do not like micro econ dont take this class. Its all about government spending at a micro level. He gives you notes and you fill them in. The problem is, his examples are so ridiculous and then he'll write a fragment you wont remember when you look at it in the future for studying. I end up reading notes I take from him and not understanding anything so I end up looking up everything on the internet to learn it. Also he uses his computer to write the notes and you cannot read what he writes so you have to keep up on notes or you wont know what they say. Good luck if you take this class. Last quick note, he doesnt follow the book so no reading or referencing it to class.

Really cool cat, loves what he teaches and he teaches it well. Has a very dry humor but he's definitely good for a few laughs every day. I would definitely recommend taking him, i'm not good at math and i pulled of an A. He's really cool and great at teaching one on one if you go in for help.
Davey is a wonderful teacher with applications of the material in everyday instances. His classes are difficult, but if they weren't nothing would be learned. His classes are worth it, hands down, and I didn't even get an A in his course!
