Yes, going to class with help your grade, but there is to many reading for a 100 level class. Also if you are a guy don't think you will get anything higher than an B. Doing extra credit doesn't help you much at all.. I wasted four hours of my life doing extra credit for maybe 3 points. Test are all short answers and way to hard. I would not recommend this professor!

Worst professors I've ever had!
Everyone seems to love Ellie Schemenauer and, admittedly, I had no complaints with her for the first half of the semester. She knows her material, the nightly reading assignments were not too time-intensive, and she assigned very little homework. Additionally, the reading guides she provided with each reading (not homework, just intended to aid discussion/studying) were pretty much the source for all of her test questions. She only had two exams (non-cumulative), two current events projects (done in groups), and one media analysis project. We watched a few movies in class, and some of them were really fascinating. That being said, I found about halfway through the course that she is very set in her beliefs and will mark you down if she doesn't agree with you. I once presented her with an article showing another viewpoint of a topic we had discussed, and she immediately dismissed it because it wasn't what she believed in. Additionally, my media analysis critiqued a video game that was innovative in showing a very negligible degree of sexism. Apparently it wasn't scathing enough, and she took off five points (out of a possible one hundred) for "mechanics," and then marked only one comma wrong throughout the entire paper (note that I am an English major and looked it up - it was correctly used). I cannot help but think that if I had written an essay about how much the media degrades women, I would have gotten a better grade. Overall, read the assignments, show up to class (she takes attendance), and parrot back whatever she says in lectures. You'll get an A, just not a very satisfying one.
Positive:

Shows a love of teaching
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Involves students in every lecture
Comes to class organized
Negative:
Expectations are unclear or lofty
Professor does not relate to students
She is a great professor. She knows her material very well. The key to sucess in her classroom in attendance. She takes it every class and not showing will definately hurt your grade. If you do attend every class there is no way you wouldn't get an a. Her tests are intense because they are all short answer, but you get a one sided cheat sheet. Her exams are based off of readings done throughout the class and she provides reading guides for you to fill out. FILL THESE OUT! they make up her exams.
Positive:
Good professor.

Negative:
Without a doubt one of the best college professors I've ever had. She is a very attractive lady who is very intelligent and has a clear understanding of her subject matter. There is no doubting the fact that she has a real passion and enjoyment in what she teaches. She's always open to helping you out if there is a conflict or if you're confused. She also does her best to engage the class. Ever since I took her class I've viewed society and the world a lot differently. The most important thing you should do to be successful is do the readings assigned and fill out the worksheet questions she has online. The sheets aren't required, but they pretty much are her exams. Also, don't slack on attendance, its 3 points off per day or something. Just do your work and have common sense and I dont see why you won't get an A' or a B'.
