I had her for English 370. She was awesome. Good sense of humor. If you didn't get a good grade in her class- it's because you didn't try. She gives you assignments ahead of time and is always willing to go over work with you individually- that is if you don't wait until the last minute! I had her for both freshman English and English 370 and I would take her for another class in a heart beat!!!
I took Gayle Mercer for both English 101 and 102, and I walked away from both classes with an A- in each. All you have to do is show up to class, do the work that she assigns you - it may seem like a lot at first, but most of it is quite easy - and try to put up with her strange, and sometimes obnoxious, sense of humor. Easy grade, easy credit...I would reccomend her if you can handle bad humor and delyed grades on assignments - she tends to forget to return assignments to you often.
Positive:
I would recommend this professor
Is creative
Is willing to help students anytime
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Has enthusiasm in the classroom
Negative:
Notes/lecture is confusing
Poor sense of humor
Gayle takes forever and day to get back papers. That is, if she ever does get them back, which is probably unlikely. She is really easy for english 102. For those of you in the business program (like me), hell yeah take her. You'll make out well and not get stressed out. If you're an english major, look elsewhere. Another positive thing is that she will cancel class quite often--unfortunately you get little if any notice, so you end up showing to class only to find out it's canceled. Look at the bright side, you can go sleep somewhere other than your desk. Nothing wrong with taking Gayle, just don't expect to really take anything away from the class!
Positive:

Gayle...I'm still waiting for those papers...hold on...never mind...it's been 8 months now. Basically, if you are taking English to improve yourself, don't take Gayle. If you are taking 102 because you need to kill this credit and don't really care, well, that's why we have Gayle! She's so very disorganized; nothing was ever in order. She does cancel class a lot though, probably two weeks total. Sense of humor is a little off, but wasn't too bad. Very little notes to take, which can be nice. She breaks the research paper down into four different papers. That's the part I liked about her course. The only assignments we ever got back were the pass/fail ones. Didn't take much away from the class, but I walked away with an A-!

She is a pretty easy teacher, gives assignments and basiclly says if you do them you'll get an A. She is a very very very slow grader and takes FOREVER to give back assignments. I am done for the semester and still haven't gotten back my research paper that we handed in right after spring break. Her sense of humor is kind of weird at times and there were times that I left the classroom saying, I can't believe she just said that. But she is an easy teacher and cancels class often.
