After being out of marching band for a couple years, I decided to go back into it. I didn't really know what to expect, and knew nothing about Dr. Hayes. Although his "motivational speeches" tend to get VERY repetitive (ie. We're doing great, but we cannot rest.....I can't tell you how often I heard that), he only does it so that we hear his thoughts and get better. He is willing to talk with students about anything outside of the classroom, and he's a great guy in general. Highly recommended!

Dr. Hayes is a very verbose man. His once inspiring speeches and analogies quickly become cliche' and quite hilarious. He shows great enthusiasm, however I think that some of his methods need updating. He is pretty unorganized, but overall a good guy. Don't avoid him, but also don't be suprised if you become frustrated.

He has to be cool if he's willing to be in charge of the marching band for eighteen years.

Dr. Hayes is a great guy, teacher, friend, and motivator. But sometimes after a while...he seems to become a broken record. You notice it more and more the longer you have him...and his powerful messages start becoming fake. I'm not suggesting that they are...but when you have him for a while he's not as powerful as he was, you'll understand. He is a very dedicated man too. No matter how bad the marching could be he would still treat us the same and would pull us out of the ditch and we would make progress and get somewhere and be a great role-model and make music and a show. In the concert band setup he definetly pushes us and picks really challenging music, its too bad that sometimes the music at our concerts sometimes don't happen like they happen in practice. Even though it may seem like he has lost his touch and has even let some people down (like the trip to England that never happened)I still love the guy!!!!!
