Jerry Gosen
University of Wisconsin - Whitewater
Department:
Management
Professors: Respond to evaluations by creating an account
Jerry is a real crazy guy and the way he teaches this course is unlike any other course I have ever had. He spends the first 3 weeks of class trying to get you to buy into the course and why its a good way of teaching, sadly to many this scares them away. I wanted to leave the class and thought I was going to hate the class but I bought into it big time and have enjoyed it. No tests or quizzes, just 3 group papers which are pretty easy if you have a good group. NOTE even if your semester group sucks you can get a good grade for basically giving up on your group if your used to doing all the work. The idea behind that is looking at how you did on the individual paper which saves a lot of people. NO ONE GETS LOWER THAN A B in the class which is nice. If you want lower than a B you have to really really really write a crappy paper. If you buy into Jerry and the class you will be VERY thankful you took it.
Overall good professor. The Game part of the class is extremely difficult, but if you are willing to put in 90 minutes a week to understand you will get at least a B in the class. If you expect to get into any type of middle-management or higher level position you better understand this classes material. Dr. Drago is also a good professor for this class.

This professor is one of the best professors I have ever had. he is a very blunt man and is sort of an "old soul" in that he's very set in his ways. However, his teaching methods are extremely beneficial and you will take a lot w/ you from his class. Some classmates didn't like him because he can be very rude and unruly, but his teaching methods are unbelievable!

Worst professors I've ever had!
I had this class twice a week. Grading consisted of playing a simulation game, and 4 papers (2 on the game, 2 on case studies), and reading case studies which you would then go over in class for participation points. Sometimes case studies would spur discussion, some times not. The rest of class was rather boring. Gosen was not generally prepared for class, though this sometimes means class starts a few minutes later and thus less lecturing. The papers were pretty much 4-9 pages of theory and bs on the game or case study. The only part of them that you might have to do some sort of work is the data requirement which involve some minor accounting. (For those of you who hate accounting, don't worry too much. I completely bombed the data part and still passed with an A.) As for this, dreaded game everyone keeps talking about, just make sure you take the time to go through the game at least once or twice by yourself for at least 6-10 quarters so you can give yourself a chance to discover the little tricks, otherwise you will be completely lost. Fortunately, if your team/group wasn't doing so hot on the game, students were allowed to go through the game on solo by themselves to pretty much replace the team grade. I almost never had a problem trying to get a hold of the professor over email or at his office for outside help or answering questions.
