Basically his WOTA class consists of powerpoints and occasional videos. If you come to class everyday and take notes from his powerpoints and some things he says are important, then you will have no problem getting an A on the tests on D2L/Lockdown Browser. Of course, you also have to attend art, music, dance, and theatre events and write a review on each one. Those 8 things (4 tests and 4 reviews) are the only things that consist of your grade, so it is pretty easy. He seems to know a lot about music since he is a music teacher, but not so much about the other three. The powerpoints are also pretty boring. If you want an easy A, take him, but it just won't be fun.
Cares more about not having cell phones than teaching...Should not be an educator... Clsss is basic though... Not hard at all...
Positive:
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Involves students in every lecture
Negative:
Is a bad professor
Professor is boring or bland
Notes/lecture is confusing
Poor sense of humor
Professor does not relate to students
Although WOTA is far from interesting, since it's required, you might as well take it with Tuinstra. He is by no means an exciting or funny professor, but he is incredibly easy. He teaches straight from his powerpoints, so all you have to do is show up and copy down what they say, and you'll get an A on his tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he will not tell you what you missed, even if you were sick. He tends to ignore e-mails from students asking about things like assignments or tests (because he's "too busy"), so don't even bother. Still, the class is simple overall, broken up into four separate units with four non-cumulative tests between them. The only assignments are four art reviews (you must attend performances, visit art galleries, etc.), but if you include what he wants on them, he is not a tough grader at all. He posts study guides for each of the tests, too, and will answer any questions students have about them before the tests. He might be somewhat dull and unhelpful, but he gets the job done. Don't expect too much of him, and he won't expect too much of you.
Positive:
Good professor.
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Comes to class organized
Negative:
Professor is boring or bland
Does not make class challenging enough
Professor does not relate to students
W.O.T.A. is a required class. Take this professor if you want a good grade. Take notes, come to class, and spend some quality time on the reviews. That is the sure way to get an A in his class. Tests are really easy and you don't have to spend a whole lot of time studying for them. He is very knowledgeable in this subject matter and has a lot to share. Take Tuinstra and you won't regret it.

NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE WHO ENJOYS DR TUINSTRA..BUT HE DEFINATELY SHOULDN'T BE TEACHING WOTA! BY FAR 1 OF THE WORST WOTA TEACHERS! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. GROVER..OR ANY OTHER PROFESSOR FOR THAT MATTER! TUINSTRA HAS TO BE THE ONLY WOTA TEACHER IN THE ENTIRE CAMPUS WHO DOESNT OFFER EXTRA CREDIT..FORGET ASKING HIM, HE'LL SIMPLY TELL YOU HE UNDERSTANDS ITS NOT YOUR FAULT, BUT HIS SCHEDULE IS FAR TOO BUSY TO READ ANY EXTRA CREDIT! HE DEDICATES HIS LIFE AROUND HIS MUSIC, AND WONT MAKE TIME TO HELP HIS STUDENTS! TESTS ARE OFTEN DIFFICULT AND UNCLEAR. ALTHOUGH SOME QUESTIONS ARE OBVIOUS, ITS THE TRUE/FALSE THAT GETS YOU! THE CLASS IS MADE UP OF 4 REVIEWS (100PTS EACH) AND 4 TESTS (100 PTS EACH, 4TH TEST IS THE FINAL NOT CUMULATIVE)..STUDY YOUR BRAINS OUT AND THE TRUE/FALSE WILL BRING YOUR TEST SCORE DOWN DRAMITICALLY. ALSO, BE CAREFULL ON YOUR REVIEWS. HE ASKS 4-5 Q'S PER REVIEW..AND DESPITE THE FACT YOU ANSWER EACH QUESTION..IF YOU CONTINUE TO ELABORATE ON OTHER ASPECTS OF THE EVENT YOU ATTENDED, HE'LL SLASH AT LEAST 15PTS FOR MAKING IT MORE LIKE ANOTHER REVIEW..HOW LAME! ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CLASS IS ONLY OUT OF 800 PTS..730+ FOR AN A-..AND THE BEST YOU CAN SEEM TO GET ON TESTS IS AN 80. TRUST ME..ANY OTHER WOTA CLASS IS EASIER. MY FRIENDS IN OTHER CLASSES TELL ME THAT THEIR TESTS FOR WOTA ARE EITHER ON D2L (CAN USE NOTES..HOW EASY) OR ARE OPEN NOTES! TUINSTRA DOESN'T REALIZE THAT WOTA IS A UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENT AND SHOULDN'T EXPECT ALL HIS STUDENTS TO BE AMAZING AT CRITIQUING FOR HIS REVIEWS OR MAKE THE TESTS QUITE AS DIFFICULT. AT LEAST OFFER EXTRA CREDIT..EVERY OTHER WOTA TEACHER DOES! IM SURE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT FEELS THIS..BUT I FEEL GENED CLASSES SHOULD BE FAIRLY EASY. ITS A TIME TO RAISE OUR GPA..NOT DESTROY IT! BESIDES..ITS NOT LIKE IM JUST EXPECTING AN "A"..IM WILLING TO WORK FOR IT..HENCE EXTRA CREDIT. IF YOUR LIKE ME AND FEEL THAT IF YOU PUT IN THE EFFORT FOR WOTA AND DESERVE AN "A"..STAY CLEAR OF DR. TUINSTRA..LETS LEAVE THE ART MAJORS FOR HIS CLASS!
