Marcia Pulich
University of Wisconsin - Whitewater
Department:
Management
Professors: Respond to evaluations by creating an account
Hmm, perhaps she has become more lenient with age. After reading all these reviews I was extremely worried about this class, but ended up getting a high A. The 3 articles every week can get annoying, but I learned more from reading and writing about them than I have from any management textbook(perhaps that's because I never read the text books). Make sure when you write the work essay that you don't tell stories about how your boss fits X attribute, but rather just find the relevant vocab under each category/attribute, put them in your own words and say that your boss is or is not X. It is unorthodox, but it's what she wants. Follow the Turabian source format to match how it is on the syllabus because that is where most people lost the majority of their points(it's so simply too). Remember to say 1 relevant thing per class. Everyday that you fail to do this you lose 2% from your grade. She prefers you ask open ended questions that the class can debate. Good luck!
Looking at the all the comments about Pulich, I was afraid to taker her class. I went into the class expecting the worst, and actually she isn't that BAD! She is of course very strict on what she expects. The only thing that is bad about her class is that she isn't really clear on what needs to be covered on the exam so you have to study like 5 or 6 chapters which is material you should know if you are going into this profession. And she makes you do these 2 pg articles (3 in total when they are due, so in all 6 pg articles) which doesn't seem helpful at first but they are once you read them and discuss them in class, The first set she will grade light but after that, she wants them according to her standards which may seem confusing but you'll get the hang of it. The articles tend to help students go more in depth with the current topic of discussion. Pulich makes you work for the grade you want to achieve which isn't a bad thing. She's not the best professor I've had but most definitely not the worst!!! If you have to take her, be open with her, and take advantage of her office hours. She may seem like a "B****" but she is a cool "B****" once you get to know her!!! I would take her again because I know what to expect from her!

Aight, sadly I would have to agree with majority of the recommendations here. This professor is definitely one of the worst professors here, I mean seriously she thinks her students are only taking her class and her class only. Her papers are freaking ridiculous. Her citing absolutely HAS to be in her way, if you even miss a dot she will take 5 points off. It's INSANE how anal she is about her papers. I wish I hadn't taken her. If you really want to get a good grade, I would totally avoid taking her. If you are an HR major, GOOD LUCK! Hopefully there will be other professors teaching this course. Take ANYONE BUT HER!!! Best of luck!

DO NOT TAKE HER !!!!! She is one of the worst professors period. She sits in class and talks, and talks, and talks and talks. All her notes are from her talking and you basically learn on your own. Her TEST are very DIFFICULT. You have to read articles every week and write a 3 pages paper on 3 different articles each week and she grades them very hard and are a waste of your time (busy work). You always have to do a take home exam that is a 5-8 pages long and again grades very difficult. Please save yourself and DO NOT TAKE HER !!!!!

Ok, give Marcia a break. Her methods are a little old-school but she REALLY knows what she is talking about. She has had a lot of real world experience and you can learn a lot from her. If you are any kind of student at all it is really not that challenging just can be time consuming. Her tests are pretty straight forward but her assignments could be classified as busy work. In general if you are an HR major you can't avoid her so look on the bright side she is really sarcastic and has a few ridiculous jokes here and there.
