Big warning. Professor Lencho's English 101 is HARD. He is a very nice person personality-wise, but his topics delve into a lot of philosophy, making it too challenging for the average student fresh out of high school. He is very helpful towards students, constantly trying to interest students in the coursework. While he is very knowledgeable in his subject matter, I end up wishing we were taught how to write better at the start of the semester. We didn't start getting lectures on Type 5-8 phrases etc until early-mid November, after we've already done 3 formal essays AND 1 midterm essay. As for the reading material, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, 2-3 chapters are assigned each week then you will take a quiz based on comprehension. These quizzes are quite challenging and they test your comprehension on the philosophical issue at hand, so be prepared. Personally, I enjoyed some concepts of this book. To conclude, take it if you want to a challenging class. Otherwise don't.

Stay away from Lencho. He doesn't want to watch students succeed, but rather he enjoys watching almost the entire class fail. terrible professor

after taking lencho for english, i believe that the only good comments on this page for him had to be himself writing the evaluations. DONT TAKE HIM
