This class was alright. She definitely gets to know you even if the class is huge. She tells you what page of the book to study for the weekly 5 point quiz. I didn't do well in this class but that's because i didn't work to my potential. I definitely recommend Mary!
She is too hard! I thought she was going to be easy, and Biology would be a blow off class...I was 100% wrong!! Quizzes every week--which are pretty easy though. The exams are tough...I studied for at least 8 hours and still failed. I never did bad in Biology before and I went to the highest level in High School. I recommend taking someone a bit easier. (She says lame jokes in class too)
Positive:
Is creative
Brings discussion into the classroom
Shows a love of teaching
Has enthusiasm in the classroom
Negative:
Confusing or hard to understand
Expectations are unclear or lofty
Overly difficult tests or assignments
Notes/lecture is confusing
Makes class too challenging
All in all ecology and society is a interesting, educational and eye opening subject but I would have to agree this is certainly NOT a blow off class. If I am to be completely honest with you people in the Biology department I must say (Back off.) apparently Linton is one of the easier professors as far as classroom work although you wouldn’t think it. Take home essays are fair…do the work and for the most part you should get full marks. Exams on the other hand are another matter. Apart from multiple choice you will have several short answers and a couple long essay questions in each exam…I am not over estimating… do an A’s amount of work and you will get a B in the class and trust me it is no better with anyone else. For the most part BIO is an ok class. I wish I had some good suggestions for ya but sorry some you win and some you lose… PS to give you an idea my final study guild sheet was about 13 pages long and I still only got in the 80’s and as far as class position according to excess spread sheet I should be grateful……Linton however is still worth taking over many others I have heard…so good luck. Great professor. She teaches well. Be warned though, Ecology and Society is NOT a blow-off class. Her tests are hard. Even though she's a good teacher, she's not the best tester. She makes her tests too tricky. Other than that, she's great.
