Nicki Mandell
University of Wisconsin - Whitewater
Department:
History
Professors: Respond to evaluations by creating an account
She really knows her history. I am amazed that she can talk most of a class period about a topic never needing to look at notes. She demands alot of her students but nothing is unreasonable. She really encourages class participation and if you do you will be on her good side. Not too tough of a grader and doesnt have tests or exams. Most of the grade comes off 6 analysises. (A book, movie, and some articles.) Overall I really enjoyed this class. Not one to miss but DEFINATELY worth the time!
While she expects a lot of information and time put into homework, you learn a lot in her class! You get on her good side by participating in class discussions. She is willing to talk to you about your grade and answer questions you have. You can really tell that she loves history.

Negative:
I worked my ass off in this class expecting to get a A. Somehow I ended up pulling off a B, can't tell you how that happened. I went to every class, took notes and did every homework assignment. She gave way too much homework for a gened class and if you miss a lecture, you better get the notes from someone otherwise your screwed. She also gives random "quizes" if too many people are gone for attendance checks.I was actually looking forward to learning history but her lectures were long and boring, she did not make class interesting at all. On a positive note, she knows her stuff. If you want a challenging class you should take this one.

Negative:
Would not recommend this professor
Professor is boring or bland
Overly difficult tests or assignments
Makes class too challenging
Professor does not relate to students
I think that Mandell is a wonderful history professor. If you are not a history major, her classes might be more of a challenge, but she will none-the-less be more willing to help you in or outside of the classroom if you come to her. I have known her for the past 4 years and not only have I learned history, but more importantly the skills needed to use in your papers and assignments to become better critical thinkers. A skill that any field of study requires. Be prepared to receive the education you paid heavily for. Seriously people, this is a University and if you are unprepared to meet the challenge or do the work, best of luck in the real world.
