Richard Brooks

Prof Brooks is a very nice guy! He knows his stuff! Class was boring straight lecture but he gave us a 5min break in the middle of a 90min class. He has 3 exams that are all essay an he's a little tough on that with out much comments as to why you got the grade you did, seems arbitrary. If your good at essays I wouldn't worry. He puts his notes online and if you study those you'll be fine! He's very organized almost to much. I'd take him again!

I cannot say a bad thing about Dr. Brooks. He is hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. You will learn a lot from him and if you're willing to participate, show up to class and do the homework you will be greatly rewarded. For World of Ideas he makes you write 3 papers on the readings (you pick which ones you want to write about) and you have a final essay. They can get long and tedious but they aren't too bad and hes a fair grader. The final exam for us was to compare two of the texts and this is the longest assingment you get...mine was about 30 pages long but its not that hard. Participate in class and you will get bonus points which can help a lot. The only bad part is that you'll never be let out of class early. If you want an easy class with a great professor and want to learn a lot but are willing to put in a little work, take him.

Dr Brooks is an ok guy. His classes are pure lecture. he talks and talks and talks with some note taking. His Exams are 10 matching and 4 our of 5 essays. If you are a goos essay writer take him, if not, don't take him. I got a F, B & C on my exams and ended up with a C in the class. He takes attendance everyday and if you miss 3 classes you drop a letter grade. He gives extra credit but its not worth your time to write a 5-7 paper thats worth 5-9 points. If you take him and hate listening to teachers talk over and over, bring a pillow b/c you will FALL ASLEEP!!! ......

I think that he makes this class interesting and fun. I am never bored at all and it is one of two classes I have where the time actually goes fast. I think he is a wonderful prof and that you should take him if you are interested in Religious Studies. I can see how it would be boring if you weren't, but then again, aren't most classes boring if you aren't interested in the subject matter. I think so.

His lectures are boring,but if you take him, print them off and then you'll be able to follow better. His essay exams seem intimidiating,but if you go to class, study, and at least show some knowlege, you'll be ok.
