To actually learn in this class, you have to pretty much read the book yourself and mostly self-study. Professor Yin does not teach very well. He barely covers the chapters we are supposed to read and randomly talks about various topics in class. On our 2nd exam, he pretty much gave away all questions the period before and gave credit to everyone on 3 questions on the exam because of him giving an ambiguous answer in class. Conclusion: Easy class. If you want easy, take him. But if you want to learn and be challenged, don't. Nothing against Professor Yin, he's a very nice professor, he just does not know how to teach.
Dr. Yin doesn't know how to teach IT because he doesn't know anything about IT. He should go back into the workforce for a few years and get up to date. In class he's a total clown. I didn't learn anything in his security class and its the most important subject you take in IT!!! The book was a joke and so was the exams/projects. Everyone in the class had an A. He's a cool guy, but seriously, he can't teach. Sometimes he brings his kid to class and the kid just completely pwns him. The kid ran around and smacked him with a tube for like an hour while he tried to contain him. We would watch a technology show that had nothing to do with IT. He didn't know anything about the assignments he gave out because he didn't make them, or look them over for that matter. Half of them were created by Sara for 331 and 332 and the other half were from the internet. The class was hilarious and fun, but it felt like a goof off session rather than a class. I've talked to other people that have taken Yin and they say hes the same in all his classes. While you can't take Sara for 452 yet, take her for every other class you can. You will learn a damn lot more. On the upside, Yin brought in Pizza for the last session.
