Sara Deschner
University of Wisconsin - Whitewater
Department:
Computer Science
Professors: Respond to evaluations by creating an account
Sara is an excellent professor who brings real world experience into the classroom. If you are looking for classes that will challenge and prepare you for the real world, look no further. Her tests are challenging, but they are not hard as long as you pay attention in class. She is the best IT professor hands down!
Decent professor, but is unwilling to help students sometimes and refuses to walk the class through labs, no matter how difficult or confusing they are. Otherwise, she's rather accommodating and personable.
Positive:
Good professor.
I would recommend this professor
Is interesting/entertaining/funny
Has enthusiasm in the classroom
Negative:
Confusing or hard to understand
Expectations are unclear or lofty
Notes/lecture is confusing
Sara has a lot of real world experience. She loves teaching and does a decent job at it. I like how she really focuses on the "business need". It helps us think critically about what we, in the IT field, are supposed to be doing in our careers. Her tests can be somewhat difficult but if you read the book, like she says to do, you will do just fine. If you discuss things in class and bring issues to her after class, she will become your best friend. Take her if you can for a fresh experience. She doesn't teach like a lot of other dry professors at UWW. She doesn't give everything to you on a silver platter... Thats life. Get over it. If you read the book and take part in discussion, you will get a good grade and a even better education.

Negative:
Sara is a great Lecturist but not a good teacher. I personally can not stand her teaching style. She lectures about "important" parts of the material and then come test time they are rather unimportant compared to what she is testing on. She expects you to find almost every bit of info on your own. which basically means that she can only teach to the reading learning style. WHICH I AM NOT. so I find it extremely difficult to learn from her. On top of that as I mentioned her tests are INSAINLY hard. I will give you an example of how she teaches and tests in the frame of cooking a pizza. She will describe the stove and what it is, and the describe the fridge and what that is and then tell you to make her a pizza, expecting yout o allready know how to do it. When you ask her to tell you how she says find it your self, but she will answers questions like is 400 degrees to hot for the pizza and do it look done? but not how to do it. So in the end I would call her a good souce for information about what it is like in the IT career but a bad teacher.

Some stuff in her classes is pretty hard. She became a teacher after being in the industry for years, so she knows her stuff very well though. She is always willing to help as well. She is a must-take (especially since she is the only one available for her classes, lol).
