Sharon Roy

I really can say anything bad about her because she is always nice to me. It seems tho she likes to make some assumptions and she also seems to pick on a few students without even noticing it. Her class is actually my favorite class but all my classes suck this semester so I might be a bit bios

Sharon Roy is a good person, don't get me wrong, but she is not a good professor. At least not for marketing 311. She give you a project on the first day of class worth 33% of your grade but doesn't give you any guidance until the last week and a half of class (and this is not an easy or small project). She isn't clear at all with what she really wants. She gave us an example project at the beginning of the semester and towards the end we found out that the example didn't even get an A. Her assignments that she gives throughout the semester are completely random and off topic from what we're learning in class and again, come with no expectations/rubric/guidance. Her exams are even worse. You don't know if you're going to get MC/T/F plus an essay, minus an essay, with short answer, or with matching. She makes those decisions a day before the exam. She promised a study guide for the first exam, emailed us saying it would be up late on D2L, around 9PM. So students waited until 9PM to study, but no study guide ever came. She makes up her own test questions and they often aren't based on fact. They're based on what she thinks is a fact. You cannot use reason, instead try and get in her head and think they way she would. She picks a few favorites in the class and they get the top grades so try and schmooze the first few days. She takes attendance and it counts for 17% of your grade along with participating in class. So make sure you say something. Also she tends to take attendance a bit earlier than class starts so don't show up at the last minute because she will think you're late. Her lectures are always all over the place. She uses the book powerpoint, but tells you to not read the book. Overall, Roy is a nice person, but not a very great professor. She always says that Logistics is her baby and a lot more fun than Marketing 311 so she might be better for that class... who knows.

Is horrible professor, she is very unclear with assignments and grades unfairly. If you do not agree with her oppinions you will be downgraded. Her Marketing Plan was VERY unclear, she did not go over what she expected and we were given one example to base the plan off of. On the last week of our six week class we were notified that the example only received a B. Out of 40 questions on our exam, the class as a whole argued that 10 of the questions were unfair with having either more than one right answer or no right answers. She promised a study giude on the first exam but never actually made one. She always runs out of time teaching resulting in her skipping the majority of the slides. She writes her own exams yet she forgets things she had taught us in class, Overall she is not a bad person but if you are looking for a professor look elsewhere.

Avoid her at all costs. Huge waste of tuition money! Her expectations are unclear and unknown, she doesn't even know what she wants on homework assignments. She picks favorite students on the first day and if you are not one you will not receive above a B in the class. Her tests are unfair and unreasonable. She does not reference the text books and makes her tests up herself. The test questions are simply her opinion in multiple choice format. There is no way of studying for the exams, it is pure luck what grade you receive. She gave us a project worth 33% of our final grade. She would tell our group that something looked great, then two days later change her mind and say it was all wrong. She brags about herself and her kids more than she teaches anything about marketing. We have reason to believe she has a problem with alcohol. She has missed several classes because of a food related illness...or maybe beverage related? She often comes to class with the stench of alcohol surrounding her. Her emails, exams, and overall demeanor reflect our assumptions of alocholism affecting her career. She often singles out a foreign student in our class, putting him on the spot to answer questions about his culture that he is not prepared to answer. Ms. Roy takes attendance often five to ten minutes before class begins, and wonders why everyone is late. She takes attendance but she confuses her students so really who knows who she is marking absent?! Whoever gave her an A must have been receiving some type of benefits outside the classroom. Please take our advice seriously, you have been warned!

I agree with everything that the other negative poster says. She plays favorites and grades everything subjectively. Impossible to understand what she wants which allows her to grade you however she desires. Tries to WOW you with her 16 years of teaching - poor students! Extreme waste of time! Avoid this lecturer!
