Ughhh this class was awful and it's to blame on Steve Curran and Dale Splinter (class was taught for 8 weeks by Dale and the last 8 weeks by Steve). It was them READING off their powerpoints everyday, and then you would get a test on a ridiculous amount of powerpoints and the questions asked weren't even the important things they tried to cover. I remember one day in class, Steve pointed to a couple random kids at said "You're getting a divorce! It's just statistics and its going to happen to you guys." He would also bring up his ex-wife and say inappropriate things about her to the class. The lab exams were even worse! Absolutely imposible lab exams because neither guy taught you anything during the lab times. DO NOT TAKE GEOGRAPHY 210 with Steve Curran or Dale Splinter!
Steve, for the most part is a good Professor. He's HILARIOUS and doesn't even try to be. I was for sure laughing ever class. I took a Tuesday night class with him and I don't think we were ever there the entire time. My only problem with Steve is his tests are somewhat BS. There are a lot of pointless factoids on them. HOwever, he turned all our regular assignments into extra credit so that was AWESOME. I'd take Steve again. Overall he's a cool guy.
Positive:
Good professor.
Is interesting/entertaining/funny
Has enthusiasm in the classroom
Comes to class organized
Negative:
Expectations are unclear or lofty
Overly difficult tests or assignments
Took him for a Wednesday night class and we always got a break, and let out early. Tests were based on his power points and weren't very tough. Somewhat interesting class too.
Positive:
I would recommend this professor
Is creative
Negative:
Alright, as has already been said, those last few comments were definitely from Steve himself. He was a pretty cool guy but not a very good teacher. He flew through the power points and didn't really stop to answer questions. Some of the stuff we learned about was REALLY cool, but we spent less time on that and most of the time going over meaningless trivia. I think he needs to narrow his focus. It's too much to expect us to know what he's looking for on a test without a study guide or something. He will make mention of some random factoid for like six seconds and it will show up on the test! How were we supposed to know that was important if he doesn't clarify? I think he even admitted that he didn't really want to be there a few times in class. If you ask me that's pretty bad, when your teacher doesn't even want to be there...eh, I don't want to be rude, he is a nice guy and occasionally funny and it's true, most students ARE just too lazy, but if you want to keep a high GPA avoid him. I am in my third year of school and had a 4.0 UNTIL I took his class, need I say more?
Positive:
Is challenging
Shows a great knowledge of subject matter
Negative:
Would not recommend this professor
Overly difficult tests or assignments
Makes class too challenging
The last two or three comments had to come from him, himself. Anyways, I had him, and I did get an A...but it is from what I DID, rather than what he DIDN'T DO. He has some interesting information, he just needs to focus on it more so it is not lost in a blur. The group presentations were fair, some people just didn't read the requirements...and many didn't come to class or pay attention so the low test grades were mostly their fault...
