Where are UConn professors on MyProfessorSucks.com?
by Layla Shlack

Print date: October 8, 2002

Wouldn't it be great if there was a website where students could read ratings of their professors posted by other students? Well for all of you that said yes, there is: MyProfessorSucks.com, and UConn students should get on there right away, because only two UConn professors are rated at the moment.

Despite the name of the site, it is not just for trashing your professors. Professors are given an overall grade, as well as grades for coolness, ease and worth. There is room for comments too.

Think about it: every student likes to know about their potential professors when registering. Instead of running around trying to find friends who have taken the same class and can recommend a professor, students can just go online and find out everything they want to know.

In addition to this fabulous feature, the site offers a lot of fun stuff. "Quote of the Moment" is a good one. A hilarious quote pops up at the top of every page, such as Mitch Hedberg's "I had a stick of Carefree gum, but it didn't work very well. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I went back to pondering my mortality," and others by everyone from Homer Simpson to Mark Twain.

There are also several contests, with prizes ranging from condoms to paid vacations. You have to register on the site to be eligible for them and you can sign up for e-mail updates, but you really do not get any junk mail.

Other fun stuff includes "Just Ask Ross," which is an obnoxious, but hilarious, advice column, and "Kasey on College," an entertaining reverie on being a broke student, as well as free downloads and e-postcards.

There is a classified section too, but it is rather limited at the moment, as the site is a self-proclaimed "newbie."

As a new site, they need as much support as they can get. Content is a little bit scarce right now, but the premise behind this site is an excellent one. Take a few minutes to rate a professor or two, and browse everything else on MyProfessorSucks.com. Think about all the students you will be helping, including the ones who started the site in the first place. Hey, it's better than actually studying, and helping out others will make your mother proud.
